Dress Code takes Gov Ball
Boots, boots, and more boots on the festival grounds
Gov Ball came and went this past weekend and Dress Code was there to take it all in.
Kayla went all three days, and I joined her for Sunday to enjoy the hot weather, stacked lineup, and observe the festival trends of the year. Read more for our Trend List on what was worn and some outfit checks from a few festival attendees we were able to chat with.
Dress Code’s Gov Ball Trend List
Boots of all kinds (to state the obvious). Lots of girls in Timberlands specifically.
Colored hair, pink specifically. I kept a tally of the how many heads of pink hair I saw throughout Sunday and the total was 17.5.
Many of the male performers wearing all or mostly white (Brandon from between friends, Jackson from Fcukers, Freddie Gibbs, and A$AP Rocky).

DAY 1

What’re you wearing?
It’s 75% target I’m not gonna lie to you. So, obviously I got this sick ass bracelet, this 3-day bracelet from Gov Ball themselves, the man, the myth, the legend.
Then I got this shirt. It was $15 from Target, still looks kind of clean to me, I won’t lie. I got this tie. I stole it from my dad. Then I got these shorts, also from Target. These were about $30, and these glasses that were about $15.
Alright, and then the shoes, I’ve had them for a while, they’re from Finish Line and then I got this clear backpack. I got that from Target too .
Where’s the drumstick from?
I just left a concert from a band named Arcy Drive. I just heard about them today, listened to a couple of their songs, and I thought, fire fucking band. They performed the best 45 minutes, arguably, that I heard so far today.
As they started leaving, the drummer came up to the front of the stage and started throwing the drumstick. I went up to catch it, but I didn’t catch it, it actually went past my hand and slid into my backpack strap. So I thought, okay, well, crazy catch. That’s definitely going to be a good bar story for later.

Oooo in one word… you know what I’m not going to lie, a little rushed. I’d say rushed. I made it the night before. Everything was closed. I didn’t have these a day ago. So, in the middle of the night, I’m thinking, all right, what’s a good Friday fit for the festival?
I looked online. I found a fit. And then the rest was history.
Who are you most excited to see perform today?
Oh, two phones baby, come on, two phones! Baby Keem, of course, Big Casino. I can’t wait to get into the mosh pits. I would love to hear him sing. My favorite songs that I can’t wait to hear him sing are “Casino” and “Family Ties”. Oh, them trumpets man, I just can’t wait.
What do you think Baby Keem’s going to be wearing for his show?
Oooo, you know what, I think he’s gonna rock the all red. You know, he might switch it up a little bit, have a little button up and a tie, just like I am. But, no matter what he wears, it’s gonna be a fire fucking concert, it’s gonna be a fire fucking night.
Twisha and Charlotte
What’re you wearing?
Twisha: I got this top and this skirt, both from Depop. The jean boots are also from Depop, (“She’s a Depop Warrior” - Charlotte) and the rest of the jewelry I thrifted, except for these earrings they’re from Tiffany.
Charlotte: The belt is thrifted. My scarf was a gift, this top was also a gift. My little cardigan is from Chelsea Market, of course (“I love Chelsea Market” - Twisha). All my jewelry is actually gifted, except for these earrings which I got at H&M.

Who are you most excited to see perform today?
Twisha: Katseye or Lorde
Charlotte: We’re trying to emulate their vibes
What do you think Lorde and Katseye are going to be wearing for their shows?
Twisha: For Katseye I think very similar vibes to my outfit, like Y2K, denim, strappy, like a lot of prints is what I expect, and boots like mine.
Charlotte: And for Lorde… I’ve been to a Lorde concert recently and she wore a sexy white tank and jeans. Very simple, very cool girl. She doesn’t care, but she’s so hot. That kind of vibe. I’m really jealous of it.
Alice
What’re you wearing?
I’m wearing a simple little outfit. This top is from Intimissimi. I’m obsessed with their long sleeve cashmere tops. I saw them in the tank top version in Italy for half the price so I had to grab them. My shorts are from Brandy. My purse is from Ralph Lauren, and I have on classic Solomons because they’re the comfiest shoe.

I’d say very calm, not a lot going on. I tried to do my hair a little bit crazier to make up for the calmer look.
Who are you most excited to see perform today?
I’m excited to see Lorde. I love her! I’m excited to see her.
What do you think Lorde is going to be wearing for her show?
I honestly feel like she’s just gonna wear a black T-shirt, jeans, something very chill.
DAY 2
Lilliana and Danny
What’re you wearing?:
Danny: I have a bikini from Hollister, thrifted jewelry all around, thrifted belt, thrifted skirt, carabiner from the hardware store, thrifted boots, and belly ring from Spencer’s.
Lilliana: I thrifted this shirt. All of my jewelry is thrifted. I got my necklace from an antique store, and my earrings are from a flea market.

Danny: Polka dots.
Lilliana: I guess… Very blue.
Who are you most excited to see this weekend?:
Danny: I’m here for Wet Leg!
Lilliana: I want to see Blood Orange!
Who’s a festival fashion icon?:
Danny: It’s real warm right now. I don’t do well with heat. I’m a really big fan of Kali Uchis and her whole look, and I’ve been really trying to learn from her how to stay alive in this temperature.
Chelsea
What’re you wearing?:
Today I’m wearing MCM shorts, a Never Fully Dressed tank top, thrifted headband, Nunoo bag, and Frye boots.

Who are you most excited to see this weekend?:
Oooh, I’m really excited to see Dominic Fike tomorrow. He’s always a vibe.
Who’s a festival fashion icon?:
I think I’m gonna have to go with Kate Moss for that one. I feel like she’s the queen of OG festival fashion and still is the inspo to this day.
Sophia and Zaid
What’re you wearing?:
Zaid: I cut these jeans yesterday. I think they’re American Eagle. My shoes are Steve Madden shoes. I thrifted this shirt, belt, and bathing suit.
Sophia: My shirt is actually Zaid’s friend’s shirt that was promoting their film. It says “MY” on the back and “GOD” on the front.
Zaid: The film is called “Wonder Dog” shout out!
Sophia: My skirt is from Urban [Outfitters], my boots are also from Steve Madden, and the bag is also Zaid’s.

What’re you wearing?
So, these shoes are actually one of my favorite shoes I own. My friend gave them to me, and I think she thrifted them, but they remind me of Isabel Marant. It’s like a dupe, so I’ll take it.
I also have fishnets on and I thought they would look really cute with my shorts. I also dyed my hair for Govball. I dyed my hair pink. I was like, I have to send it. Also my socks aren’t actually leg warmers, they’re soccer socks, but I was like you know what it’s going to look cute either way. My purse is Ed Hardy, and I got it from Burlington. My top is also from Burlington!

What’re you wearing?:
Jacey: My sunglasses are thrifted. All of my jewelry is also thrifted, except for like a class ring here and there. My top and my mini shorts are from Urban Outfitters, my white lace see through skirt is from Free People and my shoes are Doc Martens.
Jasmine: It’s almost the same thing. My sunglasses are thrifted, my shirt is from Urban, my skirt is also from Free People, the shorts are from Depop, and my shoes are Doc Martens.

Jacey: Mmmmm…cutie. I’m feeling cutie today. Yesterday, I was like, kind of emo grunge and today we’re cutie pie.

Jacey: I was here yesterday, and I saw Jane Remover, that actually changed my life. But, today I’m so excited for Dominic Fike. I got snubbed out of seeing him last year, so this is my redemption.
Jasmine: Yesterday I saw 2Hollis, I’ve seen him 3 times now and yesterday was the fourth. But, today I’m excited to see Asap Rocky.
What is 1 word to describe Dominic Fikes and Jane Remover’s style?:
Jacey: They’re very different styles. Dominic Fikes definitely indie, indie girl, you know, the 2019 VSCO, that’s part of my vibe. And then for Jane Remover, we’re just kind of like gay and emo, that’s just the vibe. Happy Pride!
Jasmine: 2Hollis is very shirtless, white tiger, military outfit. He’s always got crazy fits. I’d say A$AP Rocky is very chill. I feel like he doesn’t do too much, but that’s his vibe.
